Care home costs by council

In 2024-25 English councils paid on average £982 a week for a residential care home place for someone aged 65 or over, and £1,102 for a nursing home place. Hounslow paid the most (£1,446) and Blackburn with Darwen the least (£653).

These are what councils paid for the places they arranged, worked out by the Department of Health and Social Care. People who pay for themselves are charged whatever each home sets, and this is often more. Nursing figures don't include the £267.68 a week the NHS pays towards nursing care.
